Intent To Harm – Drained Of Life review by Mark J.Raw, direct violence built for the pit!!!
Intent To Harm – Drained Of Life (Brisbane death metal/hardcore debut single, Vicious Instinct Records)
Brisbane just spat out a debut single that feels like a full-length beatdown crammed into one track. “Drained Of Life” opens with filthy old-school death riffs dragging like knuckles across concrete, then locks straight into hardcore grooves that make your neck snap whether you asked for it or not – that perfect ugly marriage of brutal death aggression and pit-ready bounce. It’s short, nasty, zero filler, recorded like it was cooked in a sweatbox with amps on eleven and zero fucks about trends.
The middle section hits with knuckle-dragging grooves and those suffocating, mid-paced chugs that sound like Internal Devour and Body Prison members decided to form a new monster – riffs thick as chainsaw-through-bone, drums pummelling relentlessly without flashy wank. Vocals are deep guttural roars mixed with unhinged hardcore shouts, pure “I will end you” rage gargled through battery acid. No clean parts, no mercy, just raw, direct violence built for the pit.
This is the kind of debut that makes the whole Australian underground sit up and take notice – old-school brutality with modern hardcore bite, familiar faces from Splatterpuss and Body Prison, and definitely making something genuinely terrifying. If this single already drains the life out of you in under four minutes, the full-length is gonna bury bodies deep. Support these Brisbane bastards before they disappear back into the void swinging. Welcome to the slaughter. 8.5/10 drained veins.
