100 YEARS WAR MINI INTERVIEW FOR THE MASSIVE UNHOLY GOOD FRIDAY GIG

100 YEARS WAR (First show in a long time — sonic blasphemy)

MINI INTERVIEW FOR THE MASSIVE UNHOLY GOOD FRIDAY GIG

It's been a while — what pulled you back and why now?

100 YEARS WAR:

It has been a while, it wasn't really a planned break,  a few things we were working on fell through for one reason or another. Also, we are all pretty spread out geographically and busy, so it can be pretty difficult to get the 5 of us in the same place at the same time.

As for why now, most of us are old enough to have seen Beanflipper many times and have played shows with them over the years in different bands, so we were stoked when we were asked to jump on this show.

"Sonic blasphemy" is a strong way to describe yourself — where does that come from, and do you think you've earned it?

100 YEARS WAR:

Haha, probably not, I've got no idea where that came from?

When a band goes quiet for a stretch, things inevitably shift — has the music changed because of the time away or is it exactly where you left it?

100 YEARS WAR:

Nah, no big changes, we play that infrequently at the moment, that we still have a few songs off the last album we haven't played live yet, so we are polishing them up to play on the night.

Any new material in the works, or is this a chance for the songs you already have to finally get their due?

100 YEARS WAR:

We are going to play our album "ONWARDS TO DEATH" from start to finish, which we have never done before, and as mentioned, that includes a few songs we haven't played live previously so no, not really new songs, but songs that are new to our live set.

We have started working on some new stuff, but nothing that will be ready for this show.

For anyone coming in fresh, who is 100 Years War, and what are you actually doing sonically?

100 YEARS WAR:

You mean apart from the Blasphemy, haha? We play a mix of D-Beat and Death Metal, not reinventing wheels by any means, but I think we've kind of carved out a sound of our own.

What releases do you have out there, and which one do you think people should start with?

100 YEARS WAR:

I'll be picking up the pressing of "ONWARDS TO DEATH" this week, so for the first time we will have that available on Vinyl at the show, we will also have our first album "STAND AMONGST THE FALLEN" on vinyl and CDs of our 2025 Euro Tour split with BUTCHER ABC, we might also have a couple of a live split cassettes from the 2023 BUTCHER ABC/100 YEARS WAR  Aus tour, if I can dig some up.

I think the new album, "ONWARDS TO DEATH" is a good place to start and if you are at the show, you'll be able to hear us play it live, so you'll know what you're getting.

What separates 100 Years War from every other band doing heavy and abrasive music — what's the thing that is distinctly you?

100 YEARS WAR:

As I mentioned, we aren't reinventing the wheel, but we try to keep the songwriting interesting and even within the constraints of D-Beat's repetitiveness, we try not to write the same song twice. Hopefully, that translates to memorable songs that capture people's interest.
