The Owen Guns-Dawn of the Braindead album. FFO: Classic Old School Hardcore Punk. Fuck yes, been hanging for this release for ages. Utterly entertaining and well-written punk rock classics all around on this. This killer band has been releasing consistently awesome EPs for a while and also drops funny as fuck videos also. The band are certainly a bunch of intelligent punks that have a sense of humour, but endless skills to boot. They hit quality sociopolitical topics and always crucify fuckheads like flat earthers, racists and the like; as we all should. So nothing to complain about it, but added theremin and kazoo for effect.  This album is full of wicked anthems and the whole thing is designed to be played live. There are super short songs like Arson About, Five Bees, Fuck What You Think You Heard, It's Not A Riot  and Drunk Shirtless Guy which are hectic as hell and remind me of Descendents on meth.  Other killer highlights:   Not You Too because Bono is ...

Interview with Pedram from breathtaking Mathcore and experimental hardcore legends Frontierer who tour soon!. October sees this sensational super experimental band that initially began as a non-live project finally hits our shores and if you haven't heard their remarkable albums yet I highly recommend every single release of this band. It is action-packed, tangential and very brutal music. Definitely at its core is a chaotic mathcore foundation but also is post-metal, straight hardcore and almost power-violence to a degree. Amongst the chaos and mayhem are brilliant songwriting, technique and unrivalled energy that is due to the wizardry of Pedram who basically creates this astonishing music. When I had the chance to chat with this absolute metal/hardcore artisan of this genre, I jumped at the chance. He was super chill and a very knowledgeable and grateful man who clearly loves his craft. Enjoy! We chatted about: -how Frontierer isn't aiming for a particular sound or concept...

Two Faced-Everlasting Pain album review By Mark J.  FFO: Crucial, unrelenting PERFECT hardcore!!! I am so fucking happy to hear releases that are straight-up old-school hardcore, that are free of trends and music that goes straight for the jugular!. This is a modern hardcore record that utterly reflects the peak of Australian Hardcore in the '90s, and I am not being a purist or elitist, but there are very few current bands except maybe Fever Shack or Eight Count that reach that high bar that Mindsnare, Toe to Toe and other great bands are or were at. This record grabs your attention from the first listen and is pacey and every track is killer. This is a stunning beast of an album. What makes a sensational hardcore album; for me, it's skin ripping and raging vocals with emotion, catchy riffs that are equally well situated in a breakdown as much as in an intro to a track and a rhythm section that shatters windows and eardrums. Add solid song structure and clever track placemen...

Swamps, Slugs and a Clydesdale at Lake Pontchartrain?: A Motherslug Album Review  By M H Thomson September 11th 2022 Let me set the scene real quick: An early 70’s V8 muscle car, you’re driving down an unpaved back road, somewhere in the Louisiana swamps, trying to find your entry onto the Causeway down to New Orleans. You’re in no real rush, it’s a nice day to take your time and crank some quality tunes, crack a tinnie behind the wheel, why don’t ya, the cops don't patrol these roads. Just casually cruise past the dilapidated former cotton plantations, occasionally having to lazily swerve onto the empty wrong side of the road to avoid low-lying willow branches. That's where this album transported me to, even the record's title “Blood Moon Blues” fits the bill, it sounds like the destination, it being a welcoming but grimy shithole saloon on the arse end of Bourbon Street. Buckle up y’all, with this one, the Sludge is palpable. As ever, the cover is always the first thing y...
