Violet Dread-Matters of Life & Death in F#/Electric Dread Metal. Perfection and my fave release of the year!!! Extreme-styled music is one of my favourite genres. But despite basic hardcore and metal, I like a bit of depth and flavour in my music; be it tangential twists or use of electronica etc.  This killer release dropped in August and let me briefly explain the slight difference between the Bandcamp release and the physical(CD). The BC release is called Electric Dread Metal and has four tracks- Crying, Stitch up the Bleed, Numb and the Grind. The CD release of the album is called Matters of Life & Death in F# . The CD has all of the above tracks plus six more tracks. Rest assured, none of the tracks on the CD are throwaway or bonus tracks, these form the structure of the complete record for me. (I assume in the future all tracks will be available on Bandcamp at a later date). Long story short-buy the fucking cd as well as the digital. The four tracks on Bandcam...

Alarum-the most intriguing and skilled current Australian metal band-Fuck Yes!!! Alarum interview for Devil’s Horn’s Zine (Melbourne) by Mark Jenkins   1- You have just dropped a sensational album by the name of Recontinue, tell us how this came about and the differences between this and your previous releases ? Thanks, great thanks to hear you like it. Our 5 th album Recontinue follows our 2020 album Circle’s End. When the last album was released we were unable to tour and/or catch up with lockdowns here in Melbourne. We updated recording equipment and set out to write an album that the heavy parts were heavier and the clean/jazzy parts were more clean/jazzy. Also to experiment and make the album a journey from start to end, continuing from previous albums and yet having its own sound. Conscious of the lengthy times we have had between prior albums, we set out to make sure that there was less of a gap between albums this time around. 4 years is a record for us. 2- To ...

Distorta interview-the new kings of Australian Metal!!! Distorta interview for Devil’s Horn’s Zine (Melbourne) by Mark Jenkins If you missed the hot press this killer band from Ballarat are all you need in Aussie metal, killer vocals, insane riffs and top blokes!!! Enjoy!!! You have just dropped a sensational EP by the name of Deadman , tell us how this came about and the differences between this and your previous releases? Thank You. I think we are just in a really good creative space at the moment. Everyone is on the same page about what we want to achieve and understand our roles. We have so many songs on the go at the moment and we thought we better start releasing them. So we focused on the five songs you hear on the album and crossed them off one by one. It was actually a lot fun, with all of us involved in the mixing/recording process. We even did a weekend away together to focus solely on this EP, which we had not done before. 2- To someone that has never heard you befo...

DÖ - a wicked interview with these doomy sludge stoner legends.

DÖ - a wicked interview with these doomy sludge stoner legends. If you haven't heard the mighty  DÖ from Finland, you are missing out on a flawless catalogue of riff-tastic joy!!!. Here's our epic interview with these wicked gurus. 1. You have just dropped a sensational release by the name of Unversum , tell us how this came about and the differences between this and your previous releases? First of all, thank you. We’re quite proud of what we’ve accomplished with this release. Unversum is our first album with guitar maestro Teröid, who joined the band back in 2019. We actually started writing new songs during our very first rehearsals as a reborn trio. However, the pandemic and some personal challenges stretched the process, and it took us nearly five years to complete the album.   In the meantime, we released the Black Hole Mass EP in 2020. That EP served as a kind of preview of what was to come—hinting at the evolution we began to embrace when Teröid brough...

New Skeletal Faces-Until the Night album review and awesome band interview. By Mark Jenkins. FFO; Goth, Punk, Deathrock and everything in between.  New Skeletal Faces is a freaking awesome band that is very much a gothic-styled post-punk band, a Deathrock classic band or a hardcore influenced Metal band. Forget the pidgeonholing, because this band is brilliant. Every release has been flawless so far, but as the cliche goes they have upped the game with their new album. New Skeletal Faces-Until the Night album review. Disexist Starting with such a gripping and rocking opener that grabs your attention immediately is clever as hell. From the 3:18 minute mark, there is a wicked change; truckloads of tension, savage build-up in an apparent war with rattling guitars, and the staccato of gunfire like drums and those unique fucking vocals. Everything's tough as fuck. Like Bauhaus covering a punk song. The atmosphere and savage tone are all so brutal and alluring to my psychotic ears...

Batushka/Patriarkh interview; the end of one era and the start of the epic new chapter. Awesome chat with  Monk Boruta and Bartek Krysiuk. This was a brilliant chat with the articulate guys out of  Batushka/Patriarkh on the eve of their final ever show in my hometown. Before you dive deep into the toilet bowl of bullshit around the different flavours of this band/legal matters/disputes, the key here is the music. Now everyone agrees that is Литоургиiа is a certified classic, but Bart and co's releases are equally as breathtaking.  For a band with so much drama around it, these guys quite simply chatted about their love of music and what is coming next. We chatted about: -why the name change and broadly what is coming up next -the grand finale that will be in Melbourne and time to burn those effigies  -the magic that was their Dark Mofo gig( one of the best metal shows I have ever been to!!!) -the importance of ritual, theatre/costumes in a performance -Bart sh...
