In case you missed it: Pessimist-Slaughtering the Faithful album review. FFO: brutal, killer Old school death metal and a remaster that is perfect. Pessimist have been destroying eardrums since 1993 and they deliver death metal as it should be. Every track overwhelms you, the drums/guitars are ridiculously hyper-fast and the vocals are deep growls that make you wanna run and hide in a bunker. The thing with this band is they completely sound like the first wave of death wave aka Death, Immolation, Macabre, and Cannibal Corpse to name but a few. I honestly think most modern death metal bands aim for too much technical wizardry and tangential forays, without thinking that all we really want is intense brutality most of the time. This album originally hails from 2001 and has been remastered a few times with this being the third time and it sounds like the truest version. This album slots in nicely to any death metal purists collection and also this band's amazing catalog of r...

No Names-I Surrender To The Void As Of Now I Am The Void (EP) review. FFO: Well crafted and clever Industrial music that shakes you in your boots and blows out your eardrums!!!. Godflesh/Ministry/Pitchshifter influence, but utterly original. No Names is a two-piece tour de force that fools you into a false sense of calm by a neutral-ish name and some quaint, if not eerie artwork. But beware, these insignificant matters are just a distraction to what lies within this wondrous release. These eight tracks will inject their bleak, yet energetic tone into your skin and you will join this cvlt band in their mission. Creative geniuses have constructed this fantastic release that both unsettles and invigorates the listener. Opener The Thread is hugely catchy, some serious PitchShifter, Fudge Tunnel, and Mark of Cain vibes jumped out to me and it was hypnotic as much as being damn ragingly grim. Tedium follows(the track, definitely nil boredom to be had on this release, even remotely)...

Cicatrizes (plus extras) EP/Abum by Escombro. FFO:  Punch to the face hardcore, brutal riffs, aggressive vocals, a boxing match version of a band. 1054 records have grabbed us by the fucking throat again with this killer hardcore release from Sao Paulo, Brazil. This band is an absolute force of a band, no mess no fuss just pure angry hardcore with beatdown style, but not that generic boring European bullshit. This like many bands from this region, trims all the irrelevant fat and just comes in like an extremely efficient military killing machine. No subtle shit here at all, and that's what this writer loves....nasty and heavy chunky riffs with a constant brutal undertone, proper hardcore vocals, and songs that are catchy.....that's all I need from my music. This is a big transition from their previous equally fantastic releases, just more aggro and heavier. I dug the Biohazard like vibe of their music. The five tracks are solid as hell and catchy and so damn abrasive. ...
