Yersin-Guilt album review. FFO: Amazingly Brutal and Hectic Hardcore that drips in Blackened Grind/Crust/Thrash.
I recently discovered this band and wish I had done it sooner. This is my jam; completely captivating and simply punishing music that is full of emotion. And is as headbanging as fuck.
Yersin is a U.K. based trio that drifts into a few genres, but in their abrasive way create something completely original. Musically they have a foundation of blackened hardcore that is clearly underpinned by classic Earache records style extreme metal as well as crust punk, some slight black metal and heaps of thrash. And the cherry on top is mad vocals that sit anyway between Cancer Bats and Napalm Death. And that adds to the already pungent mix of abrasive riffs and tempo changes. This band is exceptionally confident at all they do and many tracks have a sludgy/ raspy groove to them that makes the whole album very worthwhile. The ten tracks are pretty diverse and whilst some tracks you are completely entranced by the damn catchiness of it all such as Massive Head Wound, Northern Stronghold and Scrotal Sacrilege (award for best song titles in ages) and others are more tangential, yet equally acidic like Insidious, Mechanised Barrymore and Fritzl. There is an absolute fuckload going on in most songs and not for the purpose of cramming shit in, this band knows how to create mood and brutality. I loved every track on this release, but Destroyer and Demonslayer were my faves. Both are at different ends of the scale; Destroyer is brief and crushes you in every second of its whole 1.08-minute duration, whilst Demonslayer gradually builds the tone, has some sublime riff and vocal gymnastics that are breathtaking and the tempo changes were perfect as hell. This is a clever track that shows the breadth of skill present with this dynamic band. Must say I am hanging for their next release. This is an essential album for your collection.
