Hidden Intent-Dead End Destiny album review.

Image
Hidden Intent-Dead End Destiny album review.  FFO: Thrashy good times. Dead End Destiny is an absolute treat of an album if you dig your old school thrash metal. There is definitely tons of Bay Area thrash here, but it has that Aussie flair that makes it even more palatable. Whilst the band is definitely not forging any new ground, they bring the party right to the front of your ten Marshall amps. They just do thrash so damn well; the sick gnarly vocals dominate every track. The guitar work is constantly frantic and smoothers you with its grasp, for a three-piece they sound so heavy and it is evident they have played tons of shows as everything is tight and well balanced.  A Place of Horror is a brilliant cracker, with so many hooks and vocal finesse, you are sold on the album straight away. The title track Dead End Destiny reminds me of Mortal Sin and other Aussie classic bands, it's a ripper. Forgotten Fate has all the traits of brilliant Megadeth style build-up an...

Flaming Wrekage - Cathedral Of Bones album review.

Flaming Wrekage - Cathedral Of Bones album review. FFO: Heavy as fuck Modern thrash with crushing melodic death metal elements. Album number three has arrived and it's a fast, nasty cracker of a release. Straight for the Kill is a killer track on this album and sums up this nuclear weapon of a release. The beauty of this album is there is sufficient tempo change, guitar wizardry and vocal rollercoaster shit to bedazzle any metal fan. There are moments of classic American style thrash metal and also tracks that shit comfortably between melodic death metal and metalcore. But not the generic stuff and that's the difference here. Tracks like Leech draw you in with amazing and sharp riffs but balance it out with a killer groove. Altar of Lies drips in dark, echoing grim glory and The Voiceless (def. the highlight of the album) attacks you on so many fronts-sensational vocal and guitar warfare blended with resounding bass/drum magnificence. Plus that oh so tasty chorus....love ...

Interview with extreme metal gods The Amenta.

Interview with extreme metal gods The Amenta. Less than a week ago, The Amenta dropped their abrasive opus Revelator on your ears and as we reviewed on this blog; it is a statement of why Australian Metal is king at the moment. Original music with intelligent writing and challenges the senses, as all art should. I had the chance to interview Timothy from the band and wow was this interview refreshing and so inspiring. To be honest, most bands give insipid and exceptionally dull answers, this is actually like 90% of bands. Timothy puts in the effort and goes deep, just like the band does with every aspect of their music and art. Kudos and thanks to Timothy for putting the time in on an absolutely solid interview where you learn tons about this band, inspirations, the process and their brilliant commitment to their art. There are so many quotable quotes in this interview. Enjoy!!.  Interview with  The Amenta. Thanks for the chance to chat with you. Now your new album has ...

The Deathless-Audio Sangha Vol.1 EP review.

Image
The Deathless-Audio Sangha Vol.1 EP review. FFO: Pacey Old school hardcore and punk: Gorilla Biscuits, Ignition and other Discord records elite, Cro-Mags, 108 and sxe classic albums. The Deathless is a classic hardcore band that is about to drop this perfectly balanced EP. They have played with the likes of 7 Seconds, Sick Of It All and Good Riddance. This is their second EP and every element builds on from the stellar debut release The Gates To The Deathless Are Open  (which is well worth tracking down on vinyl) . This masterly curated release has more diversity, increased aggression and just has that killer catchy punk rock melodic flair that evades most bands in the last decade or so. Audio Sangha Vol.1 is impeccable because it clearly delivers the goods by not sitting in one chosen lane of the hardcore genre. One moment like the rowdy opener 12 Tears  it dives straight into the moshpit and then gut-punches you with a sublime vocal harmony that lodges deep into your ...

Mogwai-As the Love Continues album review.

Image
Mogwai-As the Love Continues album review. FFO: Fuzzy, grandiose epic post-rock splendour.   Ten albums in and you think the formula would be diluted. But on this cracking release, Mogwai delivers classic trademarks of their greatest albums and still some twists and turns to mix it up.   There are beautiful ambient like textures on  Pat Stains  that just delight you with a perfect balance of build-up and calm, the briskly sensational guitar journeyman tune that is  Supposedly, We Were Nightmares  and the closer It's What I Want To Do, Mum that is so grim and dynamic in its deep plodding pace.  To The Bin My Friend, Tonight We Vacate Earth  is incredible in the manner that it fools you into thinking this is a nice, but typical Mogwai opening track but it provides brilliant build-up and gives you a taste of how intelligent this band is in both songwriting and artistic skill. They can fit multiples ideas in one song and the layers are...

Triskelion-Dystopian Future album review.

Image
Triskelion-Dystopian Future album review. FFO: Nasty, clever electro-industrial music that is heavy and addictive. Hailing from Melbourne, Triskelion is a brilliant one-man mega project that promises so much and exceeds all expectations. Dismiss this at your peril, because it's a deep and intelligent take on a genre that is often repetitive and uninspiring. James is a guitarist that previously has played in hardcore and metal bands (the guy has many side projects of varied genres as well as current bands he plays in) but the sheer talent in this particular project is astonishing. It has many influences be it the gothic electro or harder industrial elements, it just works perfectly. I hear definite Front Line Assembly influence as well as some early Fear Factory as indicated by the clever mashing of abrasive guitar work with pummeling drum patterns and gloomy keyboard action. But then you get some underground techno vibes like Psyharmonics that are absolute dancefloor crackers. It...

The Amenta-Revelator album review.

Image
The Amenta-Revelator album review. FFO: Experimental metal, diverse, deep, off the chart original. The Amenta have been messing with our ears and minds for some time and we adore the effort and craftsmanship that is so apparent. Give this some time to breathe and you have an insane release for the ages. What is contained within the walls of this album is a deep canyon of pure unrestrained ugly and uncomfortable music. Revelator is a hard listen and demands the listener gives it the chance to sink in. Because there is so much to take in. This is the band's fourth release and easily their finest hour. Genre-wise it sits between many extreme metal slots; industrial, black metal, death metal and everything in between. Overall it is very heavy, yet emotive in it's atmospheric slower noise almost ambient moments. The album smothers and gut-punches you in various ways. Riffs slice you up and vocal brilliance confuses and amazes you. The uncertainty of each track makes it a total adv...

Eloquent Atrocity by Bloody Sadism album review and interview.

Image
Eloquent Atrocity by Bloody Sadism album review and interview. FFO: Goregrind, slam/brutal death metal. Bloody Sadism is an incredible one-man project from Tehran, Iran; namely Pooyan Ahmadi. It's impressive, brutal as fuck and some tracks definitely have that Cannibal Corpse swagger. And the music is as hectic as the front album art; which is total gory glory. The ten tracks annihilate you and wash you in an utter mix of blood and rancid flesh. Nothing is too serious here, it's flat-out fast-paced gore inspired extreme metal. Highlights are the vocals, even though I personally get sick of pig squeals very quickly, but if that is your bag; you will be in heaven. Musically riffs are abrasive, have a groove to them and the samples on this release add to the overall mayhem. My fave tracks were: Ravenous Whore with its pace and devastating tone and  Bipolar Disorder which is indicative of the song title.   I am sure the lyrics are horrendous, but that's the genre and what ...
