Twenty years is a long time to leave a wound open. "Vi Är Eliten" was supposed to be the last word from Hudiksvall's finest, and now here they are, self-titled, unbothered by the two decades in between, sounding like they never left the rehearsal room. Nine tracks, sixteen-odd minutes, not a second of it interested in nostalgia.

What's striking isn't reinvention — there isn't any, and there was never going to be — it's how little rust shows. "Vad är det ni vill ha?" opens the record the way a boot opens a door, and from there it's the same formula that made this band a cornerstone of kängpunk in the first place: buzzsaw guitars, gang-shouted choruses, Poffen barking like the last four decades were a rehearsal break. "Stolta barbarer" is the one that'll get pits moving; "En dag hos terapeuten" is the one that'll get quoted.

Recorded and mixed by Kenko at Communichaos across 2025 and into this year, the production doesn't sand off any of the grime — this still sounds like a band allergic to studio polish, which is exactly the point. There's no attempt here to court a bigger room. Totalitär know what they are, forty-plus years in, and this record is them simply reasserting it.

For a genre this saturated with bands chasing the D-beat blueprint, it takes a certain arrogance to come back after twenty years and not try to outdo yourself. Totalitär don't. They just remind everyone why the blueprint existed in the first place.
