Orpheus Omega "Wear Your Sins" review

Melbourne's own Melodic Death legends have just dropped their fourth album and for the genre it's a complete gem.
FFO: At the Gates, In Flames and Soilwork.

Conceived in Melbourne, Australia in 2008, the band has gone on to become one of
Australia’s premier Melodic Death Metal acts. Touring rigorously both nationally and abroad, the band has shared the stage with some of the heavy weights of modern metal including Trivium, Children Of Bodom, Dark Tranquillity, Amon Amarth, Soilwork, At The Gates, Insomnium and many more.

Wear Your Sins is impressive in both production and grandeur. It's a diverse album that clearly sits neatly in the genre, but occasionally moves into hard rock and cinematic greatness. This writer is first and foremost a hardcore and extreme metal fan; so clean vocals has very little appeal to me tbh.

However, reviewing this when you weigh up the contenders and current masters of the genre; this guys are so well skilled and this is truly world class metal. Vocals are extraordinarily executed and the mix of abrasive riffs and keys is so well balanced. The whole album is gripping and dramatic.

The heavier vocals are borderline Entombed at times and the drumming is a complete standout; just sheer calculated warfare.

Best tracks: Suffer, In Time and Wash It All Away.

If you dig Melodic Death Metal, put your overseas drab bands to the side and grab this album as well as checking their tour in April.

It's out now on the glorious and diverse EVP recordings EVP
