Desecrator-Summoning album review. FFO: Proper old school metal!!!. What a ragingly solid band that has been kicking it for ages, but very soon drop album number three. And Summoning is an absolute killer album and their finest record.  We are well aware Desecrator is a band that is renowned for their amazing live shows and their dedication is clear by the track "Beg Steal or Borrow". Not only a metal classic tune, but it (like the whole album) places their flag or banner in the middle of the musical landscape and screams we fucking ain't here to fuck spiders. This is a classic album that is very reminiscent of old school metal and does what it says on the label, and then some. Two things are evident. One, this is a raging, enjoyable fun ride of an album. Exceptionally produced, but not overproduced. It's very punchy, dynamic and rocks hard. Secondly, it is from start to end a release that showcases a band at the peak of their skills and is absolutely world-class....

Yersin-Guilt album review. FFO: Amazingly Brutal and Hectic Hardcore that drips in Blackened Grind/Crust/Thrash.

Yersin-Guilt album review. FFO: Amazingly Brutal and Hectic Hardcore that drips in Blackened Grind/Crust/Thrash. I recently discovered this band and wish I had done it sooner. This is my jam; completely captivating and simply punishing music that is full of emotion. And is as headbanging as fuck.  Yersin is a U.K. based trio that drifts into a few genres, but in their abrasive way create something completely original. Musically they have a foundation of blackened hardcore that is clearly underpinned by classic Earache records style extreme metal as well as crust punk, some slight black metal and heaps of thrash. And the cherry on top is mad vocals that sit anyway between Cancer Bats and Napalm Death. And that adds to the already pungent mix of abrasive riffs and tempo changes. This band is exceptionally confident at all they do and many tracks have a sludgy/ raspy groove to them that makes the whole album very worthwhile. The ten tracks are pretty diverse and whilst some tra...

The Amenta-Solipschism EP review. FFO: Intelligent, Warped and Merciless Metal Magnificence.

The Amenta-Solipschism EP review. FFO: Intelligent, Warped and Merciless Metal Magnificence. The Amenta are fiercely original, dedicated to their craft and purveyors of an unclassifiable mix of extreme metal. We bow down to this band because they take every essence of their work as serious art. As it should be, fuck all the throwaway imitations of past greats, create your own masterpieces. This year's gruesomely gorgeous album Revelator burnt its confidence and weirdness into our souls, yet we crave even more blood from this amazing creative force. Fortunately, we have this killer EP that drops very soon.  The band said this: During the recording of "Revelator", The Amenta’s 2021 album, an extra track was recorded but ultimately removed from the album. Combining a dank, dub-inflected verse with grainy distortion bursts and a coda that rides a tribal rhythm into the void, ‘Solipschism’ can be seen as a missing key to the puzzle of "Revelator". Backed with ‘Labo...

12Gauge Rampage-Unleash the Rage album review. FFO: Brutal Slam and DeathGrind insanity.

12Gauge Rampage-Unleash the Rage album review. FFO: Brutal Slam and DeathGrind insanity. This ripper of an album dropped this week and personifies all the degenerate madness of both Slam and Brutal Death metal with definite goregrind influence as well. This is 11 tracks of insane, Aussie as fuck extreme metal that totally slays. The pace is mad, the drummer sounds like he is on meth and the singer sounds possessed by at least 15 different demons. Oh yes, and it has no guitar. And it works like a dream, you have zero time to take any air and your head will probably fall off from the catchiness and sheer brutality of it all. Like many bands from Australia, there is no time for the subtle intricacies and it is totally about pushing musical boundaries and keeping everything abrasive. I love how the whole release is so biting and acidic, but at the same time, these boys know how to write tracks that sit in your brain for ages. The album passes by very quickly but washes you in sweet g...

Entertain the Terror-Love Your Hangman EP review. FFO: Blazingly grim death metal influenced hardcore.

Entertain the Terror-Love Your Hangman EP review. FFO: Blazingly grim death metal influenced hardcore.  More gems from an absolutely huge year of releases from Australia's 1054 records. And this shit is hard as fuck, I mean so much euro beatdown or hard-edged hardcore is generic as hell. But Entertain the Terror are french bulldogs on top of the genre. Everything sounds grim and gritty, and from a dirty alleyway with blood stains and syringes etc. Besides the killer song structures, disgustingly gorgeous riffs and psychotic vocals is a production that is very standout. This simply sounds so dynamic, live and aggressive, in fact, I can't recall a sound so captivating and punchy. The EP itself continues five awesome tracks that start off with an epicly heavy intro and all are varied in pace and structure which demands a full album sooner than later. My fave tracks were: Pawn that drips in scintillating razor-sharp guitar work and once the accelerator is pressed you are drawn ...

Beleth-Silent Genesis album review. FF0: Hectic Deathmetal with groove.

Beleth-Silent Genesis album review. FF0: Hectic Deathmetal with groove. Beleth is an insanely great groove-based Death Metal band from NSW and this album is a raging gem. This album contains eight solid tracks that are driven by some clever as fuck songwriting, endless killer riffs and fantastic vocals. The band sounds like a cross between Carcass and Lamb of God in a nasty and great way. There is enough variety to keep your headbanging from start to end, and it is an intelligent beast that goes from brutality to groove worship easily. Whilst the overall feel is pitch-perfect, there like most death metal albums is a degree of repetition, but I loved the release. Not too long and zero boredom. Highly recommended. Total Recall-Always Together album review. FFO: Chunky riffs and blazing metal influenced hardcore.

Total Recall-Always Together album review. FFO: chunky riffs and blazing metal influenced hardcore. I love how 1054 records are unearthing great musical gems across the globe. Even though the album cover looks like a vague reference point to a well-known Carcass album, this is tough hardcore dripping in metal. Initially, it strikes you as a clever simple hardcore album, but it not only has a strong power in its delivery but goes off on a few pleasant tangents. The members have been in many bands and this band shows they know what is expected from an act that has intent and purpose. The first four tracks are punchy, hectic and gravelly hardcore ragers. Everything works well, be it intelligent riff work, gang vocals or lead vocal forcefulness. They can change pace with ease and create a definite borderline beatdown vibe to these tracks. Seas of Illusions is my pick of the first half of the album; it just drills into your skull and has a moody balance to it that resonated. The seco...
