RESISTANCE

Absolutely no doubt that Resistance is Melbourne's tightest, most energetic extreme music unit, and also a band that appears to enjoy themselves immensely each set. Indeed, the guys are mates, but this band's power and harmony is wild. Utter D-Beat glory, big riffs, vocals by all three bandfolk and a powerhouse drummer, Sir Jay Allen.

Resistance has magnificent songs with all the finest hooks and curveballs, all down to each band member's long experience.

Each track is delivered in an adventurous way combined with the camaraderie and infectious energy of this band.

What an opening band, they showcased their recent brilliant album and even a Discharge cover. What more could you ask for, fuck me dead if this isn't your new fave band you must be dead inside.

MASON

Now, unfairly, initial appearances can make you judge a band, and whilst these dudes definitely looked like absolute rockpigs (in a respectful way) they certainly know how to deliver quality thrash to a super eager crowd.

Now I do love me some thrash, but my allegiance was more to the European flavour like Kreator, Destruction, Coroner,Sodom, Tankard etc, more than the American flavour. And these talented guys do this genre/region proud and definitely had heaps of fans in the crowd.

The hyped up singer/frontman/axeman completely revved up the audience from start to end like a teenager on 20 cans of red bull, fucking loved that. They were tight as hell and super energetic.Plus tonight they had ol' mate from Pizza Death on bass-Kane who always delivers..not just pizza.

This band are absolutely solid as the punchy vocals dominate as much as very acidic riffs and bombastic drums.

The highlight of the set was a track, which the singer proclaimed was an oldie-no idea the name- but the more faster tempo and angrier vocal style seemed to be their best work. This is a super-skilled and competent band that thrilled the crowd. Not my fave type of genre, but utterly enjoyable and well worth checking out and supporting. Kudos to Mason!!!

NERVOSA

I was new to this band, but this spectacular band was formed in Brazil, but is now very international flavoured with members from Greece, Italy and Spain. Regardless of location, their magnificent albums are essential, all deep in that hard-edged South American Thrash style.

And Nervosa absolutely delivered tonight. For a band with multiple member changes in their history, they were solid as hell. High energy, magnificent playing and phenomenal vocal prowess from Prika that was hectic and crushing.

Helena, as second guitarist, adds that extra energy and brutality the band needed as shown on their last album, Jailbreak and it utterly shows as a live show.

They gave a great representation of their solid catalogue, focusing more on the last two albums, Perpetual Chaos and Jailbreak. Something about the Brazilian type of thrash is so catchy, primitive and heavy. I know Sepultura(the original and proper version, No Max No Sepultura!!!) is an easy Brazilian comparison; however, stylistically Nervosa perfectly blend the mix of early, almost raw Blackened Thrash and also early Death Metal, like the famed Sepultura. A highlight was also every band member were super interactive with classic metal poses, grimaces etc.

This definitely beats any band standing there looking bored as hell. They made it very clear they want to tour here again, their whole show is unmissable.

This killer band plays like a well-oiled machine, with savage musicianship from the first track until the end. Nervosa, whilst being an all-female band, is very far from tokenistic; they actually are better than most of their peers in the genre. Incredible gig!!.
