Death by a 1000 Bullets: Incredible Mixed Releases: Abramelin, Crypt Crawler, DÖ, Better Lovers and Fat Monica.

These are the dog bollocks, concise short reviews of shit you need to buy now. Got it, now read, buy and thank me later fuckface.

We have a blindingly awesome selection of releases here. Let's go and get into these bangers.

THESE ARE WICKED RELEASES!!!

ABRAMELIN-SINS OF THE FATHER. Just like it's filthy previous release, this drips in growly, old school death metal free of bullshit. Melbourne really is the kingpin of Death Metal with Werewolves and these lunatics. Are you expecting anything new or progressive; prepare to be disappointed ; but if you want sledgehammers to the face of gnarly drums, riffs and vocals you will be excited. The lyrics are as rotten as expected, but hey it's not like Obituary or Cannibal Corpse write modern prose. All ten tracks are insane, brutal and produced in the right manner. Buy this and play it loud, because this is what Death Metal should sound like.

CRYPT CRAWLER-THE IMMORTAL REALM.For a more modern take on death metal, Perth Heavy hitters dropped this last month and it certainly was more technical wizardry, more refined vocals and melodic underpinnings. A focus on energetic riff warfare is huge across this release and it is a dynamic release. My only criticism is that it needs a touch of more rawness to it, that the band delivers in spades live-this could be the production etc; there seems to be some restraint on the overall sound. That said this is a ripper of a record and with each record the band are progressing in all the important areas. Forced Metamorphosis is the highlight here, but the album is definitely worth your cash.

DÖ-UNVERSUM.Hell yes, I sang the virtues of the band's glorious Astral Death Cult from 2019 and thank satan the lords are back and even more grandiose. They have majorly upskilled and still focus on wild as opposed to boring doom/sludge riffs. Nuclear Emperor stamps this clear in your head, the barbaric, almost Bathory and early black metal vocals mix so well with all the dirt, filth and scum the band cover you with. Sulphur Incense was trippy as fuck and sublimely psychedelic, there are insane doomy wig-outs on At The Melting Gaze of the Origin, Faster than Light and Call of the Supervoid. But I love the more gravelly moments that counterbalance these brilliant more stoner moments in the more intense tracks like such as Ode to the Dark Matter, Moldy Moon and intense closer Wasted Life Form.
Any doom metal fan or variant of that style needs to buy everything this band does. Stunning work, as expected.

BETTER LOVERS-HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE. What an intense, funfilled and clever album. In case you have been sleeping under a massive rock, this band is a mix of ETID and the magnificent Greg from DEP on vox. Does it work-amazingly so in most ways, when it twists in it's Converge-lite tangential manner-which is most of the album. But I don't really love the super alt-rock moments personally(I mean they are exceptional in a stadium rock way) one example is At All Times which is not a style I resonant with tbh (but then again I dislike Deftones or anything similar). But I am a bitter, stubborn fuck who jumped outta my skin for 90% of this fantastic album , particularly Superman Died Paralyzed, Future Myopia and Your Misplaced Self. I loved the 90's worship mixed with the frantic The Hives/Cancer Bats-like vibes on  A White Horse Covered in Blood. A meaty and varied gem, the most fun album of the year.

FAT MONICA-THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP. I love this insane two-piece band, which is better than all their previous and current bands. This is a wild mix of black metal, Friends worship or pisstaking, blackened crust and straight-up fast hardcore. The album is blazingly fast, but has great purpose in it's grim and ripping pace and tone. Although the lyrics and samples are funny as fuck, the skilled music is dead serious and so gripping in its manner of abrasive unhinged power. It is equally a throwback to old black metal mixed with the best type of crust; when black metal was merged with UK hardcore. I cannot pick faves because I love every track of this fantastic release. Also I love the fact I adored this more than the more hyped releases polluting the extreme music landscape. Brutal essential, amusing and all killer!!!
