BEANFLIPPER MINI INTERVIEW FOR THE MASSIVE UNHOLY GOOD FRIDAY GIG

BEANFLIPPER (Headliners — Death crust sludge metal legends)

(Yes, I realise it is the day after the gig-technological glitch where it went to preview, not publish lol, who cares it's fkn Beanflipper so read it regardless!!!)

BEANFLIPPER MINI INTERVIEW FOR THE MASSIVE UNHOLY GOOD FRIDAY GIG WITH MATTI

What does it actually mean to still be doing this after all these years — is it legacy, stubbornness, or something you genuinely can't stop?

BEANFLIPPER:

It’s probably a mix of all three, though for me it’s chemistry on stage, and when we play together in general, it just syncs right up

Crusty influenced hardcore/metal has always had a political and social edge to it — where's your head at with that right now, and does that still feed into what you're writing?

BEANFLIPPER:

I’m heavily into politics (Matti) the others are less open about it. I think there is more personal edge to our songs from back in the day, mental health issues, feeling disenfranchised, plus pushing against religion, that sort of stuff

When you're headlining a seven-band bill like this, what do you feel like you owe the room by the time you hit the stage?

BEANFLIPPER:

Giving it 110% (sorry for the cliche platitude), genuinely rocking everyone's socks off and having a blast whilst doing it

What's the current state of the band — are you writing, recording, or is this more of a live chapter right now?

BEANFLIPPER:

Live chapter is the main focus, though Rocket did mention he’s got 3 new songs ready to go, so a bit of arranging and learning will be in order when we have the new set bedded enough to have the headspace to learn a couple of newbies

For anyone who hasn't crossed paths with Beanflipper yet, how do you describe what you do and where you came from?

BEANFLIPPER:

Tough question, sort of punk, sort of metal with hints of 90’s grunge and very in your face, pretty much straight out of Richmond in the early 1990s.

Walk us through your releases — what's the one that means the most to you and why?

BEANFLIPPER:

Total Dysfunctional Collapse 1994, Rodent Ulcer 1995 and Garden Variety Manic Depressant 1996 for me each has it’s own charm, I have favourites across all three releases, I suppose Garden Variety is the favourite as it was fun to record, we had a week in the studio, and Shock unbeknownst to them payed for all the pot, beer and pizza, plus I like the variety of songs, I actually wish we we’re playing Mine in the set now but I think its goes for 8 minutes so that’s would be a fifth of the set in one song.

Are you hyped for this epic show on 3rd April for UNHOLY GOOD FRIDAY?

BEANFLIPPER:

Pumped to be playing in my home suburb for once, and this is my first gig in Melbourne this year, with a new updated set
