Svalbard's Liam Phelan as interviewed by Mark J.  An absolutely brilliant band and touring in May.

If you missed out on this UK band's stunning release last year, The Weight of the Mask just stop whatever you are doing and listen to this breathtaking album ASAP.
This record is everything from post-hardcore, melodic metal, black metal, D-Beat and then some. Phenomenal videos, splendid artwork and sincere lyrics match the deeply emotive and aggressive extreme music that is memorable as hell.

Late last year I spoke to Serena of the band shortly after the album was released and now I chatted with Liam as the debut Australian tour was announced for May 2024. Serena hinted this tour was in the process of being booked, so as always, this band delivers on their promises. This will be one of the finest tours to hit our shores this year, plus special local legends RUN are supporting each date on this tour.

I chatted with Liam about:
-the excellent The Weight of the Mask album and how well it has been received globally
-Upcoming tours for the band
-the new dazzling video To Wilt Beneath The Weight
-playing large stadiums to small clubs, and his preferences
-how one describes the band to a new listener
-energy and flow of songs on albums and live
-the band's songwriting and creative process

-dynamic nature of rehearsals and the future of band practice; virtual
-the vivid and powerful Faking It video and how the band made it
-Lyrical content
-Liam's Violin skills and input on a new song
-the atmosphere and beauty of How to Swim Down; the song and wondrous animated video
-Setlist for the tour
-all things Melbourne
and much more!!.

This was a fantastic conversation with a super chilled and passionate musician from one of the world's best extreme music bands. I implore you to check out the band's entire incredible catalogue and catch one of these gigs as this is guaranteed to be a sold-out tour and you will be thoroughly entertained.
Enjoy:
